Skyworld, Creation, and the Comet Lacrosse Player (2026)

A comet in the form of a lacrosse player guided Sky Woman on her journey from Sky World to what is now Turtle Island or North America. This representation formed in clay, and fashioned on a steam bent, hand carved lacrosse stick, reminds all in our community of continued responsibility of safeguarding matriarchs, life givers, and response to missing, murdered, Indigenous women and children. The Haudenosaunee Creation Story represented in this ancestral & modern art collaboration between Katsitsionni Fox (Mohawk /Film Maker/Pottery Artist) and Dr. Rodney Haring (Seneca/Carver/Philosopher) reminds of our early beginnings, the duality and balance of good and clouded minds, and the practice of peace. The lacrosse story stick art piece honors sky woman in the form of a cornhusk doll along with her protector the Comet (lacrosse player). The piece adorned with a clay sky dome (Sky World) paying respect to the celestials, along with clay depictions of large winged birds over water sharing her journey to what is now Mother Earth. Within every wooden lacrosse stick lives original instruction and the art of connection between sky, water, earth- all these together shaping futures grounded in the strength of our origins.
